Social media fashion illustrations for Walter and Herbert.
In February 2016 I created some fashion illustrations for Walter and Herbert for their social media. Walter and Herbert are an iconic British eye-wear brand that were established in 1946. They specialise in very unique spectacles and sunglasses that have a really fabulous retro look to them. All of their frames and lenses are made in England and their flagship store is situated on leafy Monmouth Street. It’s actually located in the trendy Seven Dials area of London that connects Soho to Covent Garden. I just love the unusual shapes and colours that they use on their styles and was more than happy to do some portrait fashion illustrations for them to show off their brand. They really take risks with their colour combinations which was a real treat to work with as an illustrator.
How useful is social media illustration ?
I get more and more requests for illustrations for social media nowadays. In the last ten years you cannot deny the vast importance of the ever growing phenomenon of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I do many live illustration events for various companies, and we often create some illustrations to be used before the event on social media. This is to create publicity and buzz for the event and to let people know what’s going to be taking place and where. I have also created fashion illustrations for bloggers to be used on their blogs and websites and social media accounts. The brief for Walter and Herbert
I hope you liked my fashion illustrations for Walter and Herbert. When we worked on the brief, we decided it might be nice to do all of the fashion portraits in gray scale tones, and reserve any bright pops of colour just for the glasses and sunglasses. We felt this would showcase the unusual use of colours in each of the styles more. I used brush pens, which I love, especially the ones by Japanese pen band Zig. Then I used watercolours for the glasses and sunglasses. I put all of the illustrations together in Photoshop, and added a bit of shine and polish to them digitally.
Where the Illustrations were used
Walter and Herbert were very pleased with the illustrations and they have used them across their social media as well as throughout their store on Monmouth Street.
